Let us use this great shot by GL360 Productions to introduce Asharp, the next star in the Time For My Music Evening Showcaseâs line-up.
Asharp is a versatile saxophonist who plays all three alto, tenor and soprano sax. She has recently broadened her talents by branching out as a solo artist, and is now a regular performer at the âWednesday Mic Feverâ happening at the Legacy Centre.
This is what she told the audience about her experience with Time For My Music:
I joined Time For My Musicâit wasnât at the beginning, but probably after theyâd had about two or three sessions [âŚ] What I found has helped me most is learning about technology, because Iâm the worldâs worst when it comes to computers and technology. Millicent, I donât know how she has managed to do it. Sheâs just so patient when I canât log in or pick up the password. She doesnât shout at all, she just talks calmly, which is good for me, âcause Iâll panic at it even more [otherwise].Â
Itâs the meetings, the fellowship. Yo

Today, itâs Melodyâs turn to be under the spotlight. Sheâs a featured vocalist with the Notebenders big band, whose voice has been praised for being smooth and angelic on the high notes when singing classical songs and jazz.
During the Evening Showcase last year, she had this to say about Time For My Music:
[âŚ] Time For My Music is like a sisterhood, a fellowship. Itâs togetherness, a way to put ourselves out in the world as musicians together.Â
[âŚ] Millicent has a wonderful gift, a very open heart. Sheâs very patient with us. I can see that she gives, she goes beyond the mile, many more times than that. Iâm truly grateful, also, for the support that she receives in doing this from the family, and for the support of the group. Itâs one of the reasons Iâm standing here, and Iâd like to thank Patricia because, when I started to meet up with the community bands and the Notebenders, it was Patricia who told me about Cafemnee, which was a forerunner to Time For My Music. So thank you a

Today, we want to share the words that Patricia had to say about her experience in Time For My Music during the Evening Showcase last year.
Patricia is a quiet person, rather on the shy side, but the deep rich tones on her tenor sax speak volumes. Itâs always a delight to watch her play! Although there were two online concerts before the Evening Showcase, this is the first time she appears on camera, captured wonderfully by the team of GL360 Productions in video and photos like the one you see above.
This is what she said to the audience:
On the second half of the show, weâre supposed to say a little bit about Time For My Music and what it means for us. Iâm sure weâre going to be repetitive, so donât be surprised. But as Michelle says, Millicent is a wonderful person. Sheâs been blessed with a gift and a talent for playing music. But not only does she bless people with her own music, she has put this group together, which has been going for a good few years now, before lockdown, a

During the second part of the Time For My Music Evening Showcase, the women addressed the audience to tell them a little about their aspirations, and how the work with the online programme has supported them in their journey. We will share transcriptions of selected fragments, so you can get a better idea of how Time For My Music can support you or someone you know achieve their goals in the music industry.
Letâs start with Michelle, a saxophonist who regularly enchants audiences with the Notebenders at Birmingham Symphony Hall and other prestigious venues, She aspires to become a sought-after studio session saxophonist, and this is what she had to say about Time For My Music:
Iâve been in Time For My Music for some time now, and I never ever thought that Iâd actually perform in a setting like this.
What we do is: we meet up in person and online, and we share ideas. We talk about what things have gone wrong. We talk about our ambitions, and about songs we want to learn. [...] With

Part 1 is already out, so you can sit back, relax, and enjoy 50 minutes of music by the talented Angela, Angie Lee, Asharp, Melody, Michelle, Patricia and Tiny Sax:
Part 2 comes out on 23 March, just three weeks from now.
Many thanks to GL 360 Productions (@gl360media) for making a full coverage of the evening showcase, making it possible to share the art of these women with people all around the world. Be sure to play the video in full HD to get the best experience, and if you like it, let us know in a comment or by sharing with your friends!
The Time For My Music evening showcase on Tuesday 29th October was fabulous. The women stepped up to the mark and delivered a performance that blew everybody's minds. They were glamorous and classy, engaging the audience (a full house of it!) to share hours of great music played with their hearts and souls. Truly, the event couldn't possibly have gone better.Â
The significance of this achievement goes beyond the stage. The women didn't only perform at the evening showcase, but they actually organised it and produced it. They learned what's needed to put on a show, who to contact, and how to go about things. Using her experience producing the Not Just Jazz shows, Millicent guided them and provided them with the necessary skills so they can do it again by themselves in the future, being transparent with them in regard to location options and regulations, costs, etc.
The show is over, but the learning continues. There are things that still need to be taken care of, evaluations to do, an...
The first ever in-person live concert by the women of Time For My Music has a date! Prepare for an evening of jazz, soul, reggae and gospel by the brilliant women who are part of this programme on Tuesday, 29th October 2024.
It has been many months of preparation, discussion, decisions and rehearsals. We're positive that the showcase will be worth all the effort! Please, stay tuned for more information coming very soon.
While you wait, you can watch the online concert that the women offered two years ago. The whole stream is available on YouTube:Â
You can also revisit the photographic exhibition that the members got at OLDP in Birmingham, UK, guided by our director Millicent in this short video:
Our online community for emerging musicians, Time For My Music, is preparing their first ever live concert in the city of Birmingham, UK. Itâs been an exciting and inspiring process so far. The participants have brought a lot of energy, ideas and dreams to the table. For example, theyâve suggested music pieces that theyâve always wanted to have in their repertoire. Without revealing the whole set list, we can say that Stevie Wonderâs Superstition and Bob Marleyâs One Love are among the selected songs. Theyâre sounding great already!
In regard to the date, weâre aiming for some time in November. Besides the music, though, there are many things we have to figure out first. One of them is how to pay for the expenses of the event. While we will sell tickets, weâd only be able to cover all the costs if we did so for a price that we consider too high. This means that we need to compliment ticket sales with other forms of funding.
To start looking for a solution, our director Millicent atte...
Angela is a long time member of Time For My Music, our online community for emerging female musicians. She plays the alto saxophone, delving mostly into jazz, although she's a versatile interpreter that's open to other genres as well.Â
Last year, motivated by the workshops and discussions that take place in the T4MM community, Angela took an important step in her journey by creating her own YouTube channel.
This is her testimony about it:
T4MM has helped me in many ways. The workshops are excellent. One of the workshops that
has really helped me was the one about setting up a YouTube channel.
I used to choose a few friends to share my songs with and leave it at that, but I considered creating a YouTube channel for a while âI just didn't have the confidence to do it. However, I really wanted to do a gig to celebrate the Jamaican Independence in 2023. For doing so, I told myself: "I am going to start my YouTube Channel." I recorded two songs in one session, which added to three mor...
Hillary, known professionally as Tiny Sax, is part of the Time For My Music online community for emerging female musicians. Her instrument is the alto saxophone, with which she plays a variety of genres including blues, soul, jazz and funk.
She has performed as a solo artist at a number of events, like a Windrush celebration (H Suite), OPOL function (Legacy Centre of Excellence), Our Journey function (Ibis Hotel), and as part of the âNot Just Jazz Vâ concert of multi-award-winning saxophonist Millicent Stephenson. She has also played at private events like garden parties, and for children at schools.
Hillary plays in two bands: âAs One Collectiveâ and âMojo Trainâ. She has been occasionally invited to join the brass section in the Mike Davids Band too. You can watch her in action on her YouTube channel:
About Time For My Music, this is what Hillary has to say:
When I initially learned to play the saxophone, I had no real intention of performing in public â mainly because I didnâ...
